RadCan has so far contributed £104,000 towards the £450,000 cost of a CT Scanner, £7,593 on a Bladder Scanner, £5,000 to sponsor a garden and £38,000 to purchase a Respiratory Motion Phantom which is a stateof-the-art breathing simulator which enables tumour motion to be reduced making the treatment more accurate and less likely to damage adjoining organs such as the heart.
Radcan is currently arranging for the purchase of a Head Only Immobiliser which will cost around £10,000. The Head Only Immobiliser fully immobilises the patient’s head during the CT planning scan and treatment. The patient’s head will be held in a comfortable position but they are unable to move it whilst being treated ensuring that the treatment is received in exactly the right place.
RadCan will continue to support the Basingstoke Radiotherapy Unit by purchasing specialist equipment which ensures that treatments are more accurate and more effective.
We are currently raising funds to purchase 2 additional software licences which will enable medical professionals involved in radiotherapy planning to be able to dial in from other sites. This will reduce delays in treating patients when relevant staff cannot be on site. The cost is likely to be in the region of £15,000 to £17,000.
28 new patients started their treatment at the centre in August and it was expected that 34 would begin in September. That is a lot of people who do not have to travel far, can park free on-site and will be treated in a modern, light and airy environment.
